Once one nation, the modern Selara is now a loose association of City-States led by a royal family with no power. Scattered across the northernmost areas of Malia, the Seleran cities are owned by powerful houses, which are always competing for who controls the most wealth. The Royal Family tries to keep order, and prevent open house warfare, but most agree that Terrak simply counts as another house, and a fairly weak and poor one at that.
Since their surrender to Akheta, Selera is now a loose part of the Illumian Empire. As per the terms of surrender, none of the house nobles have been removed from power. But this doesn’t mean they have the right to self-govern. Illumians have outlawed the worship of Solaris, considering it heresy. The Cloister is now illegal, and the members devout enough not to give up their cause (most of them) are being hunted down. As a result, unlicensed mages run rampant. Many Seleran cities, not equipped to handle an influx of openly magical individuals, are struggling to keep up. The only House that likes how this is gone is Grontos, which has been returned to power, its war with the Varden begun all anew.
